Part of the Subversive Stitch series, this vessel is a study of colour & texture. I mix all of my glazes, most of them crafted using oxides, rather than stains and apply them to the surface of the pot, very thick, using brushes. What I see when I paint the unfired surface is misleading, colours look nothing like what they become after firing. The kiln reveals relationships that were impossible to fully anticipate. This uncertainty is part of the process: painting by instinct, trusting the chemistry, and allowing the fire to have the final word.
